Gen Z was handed smartphones and social media with no instructions. Most of us discovered what healthy use looks like years later, but we lost too much time along the way. Screen Time Stories are how we give the next generation the advice we never had. Every story helps a younger student build a healthy relationship with technology from their first device so that tech addiction never gets the chance to begin.
"If you could talk to your younger self when you first got a phone, what would you say?"
A Screen Time Story is a reflection on how your relationship with technology has changed over time. It can be as long or as short as you want: anywhere between 30 seconds to several minutes. Advice lands best when it's revealed in a real narrative. Here are some follow-up questions to get you started:
When did you get your first phone or social account, and what was it like at the beginning?
What has technology given you that you value?
When did it start costing you something, such as sleep, focus, friendships, or time?
What changed, and what are you still working on?
If you could talk to your younger self when you first got a phone, what would you say?
Your story does not need to be polished. Opening your phone and pressing record is enough. On the other hand, if you want to go all out, edit it with music, and make your video more professional, feel free. Express your story however you want to.
Record a Screen Time Story, answer the question of the month, or anything in between. You have full creative agency, so showcase your story freely.
Submit it to our website. We watch every story that comes in.
We'll send your story to wherever it is impactful. Nothing is shared without your approval.
