What the course covers

A semester meant to change how you live.

Students track their own data, learn the science, and practice new habits with real accountability. Passive attendance is not an option.

  1. 01

    Exposure to the research

Students start with a hard look at the data on screen time and social media, then run a baseline evaluation of their own usage, habits, and patterns. They learn the science of digital addiction, how some level of digital dependence became normal for all of us, and what excessive, unintentional screen time does to life quality, cognitive function, social connection, and mental health.

  2. 02

    The attention economy

Students learn about the business models of large tech and social media companies, and their downstream effects on culture. From there, they get a clear definition of tech intentionality, a path to it, and research-backed strategies for every part of daily life.

  3. 03

    Education in AI

The course closes by thinking critically about how the AI revolution will change what it means to be human and how to stay competitive in the job market, with practical strategies for using AI to learn better and be more productive while keeping your agency and judgment.

Questions the course answers
  1. Q1What does excessive, unintentional screen time do to our quality of life, focus, and relationships?
  2. Q2What does a positive, sustainable relationship with technology actually look like?
  3. Q3How do media algorithms work, and what do they do to society?
  4. Q4When is AI better than human intelligence, and when is it not?

How it connects to Project Reboot

From a Berkeley classroom to your school.

  1. August 2021

    INFO 98: Becoming Tech Intentional

While studying data science at UC Berkeley, Dino Ambrosi created a student-taught course to help classmates take back their time. Across three semesters, 100+ students cut their screen time by an average of 3.5 hours a day. That course became Project Reboot.

  2. January 2026

    Mind, Machine, and Meaning

Sahar and Lucas turned the work into a for-credit course, COG SCI 175. It now reaches 450 students a semester, and the results are measured with research scales like the Digital Dependence Index and the Beck Depression Inventory, so we know which habits actually work.

  3. Today

    Project Reboot in K-12

Our school program was developed in collaboration with MMM. Assemblies, Clearspace, and student-led clubs bring the same research to 100,000+ students and parents at 80+ schools.
